Running Bowline

Usage: The Running Bowline is a type of noose (running knot), related in structure to the standard Bowline. As with most running knots, the Running Bowline will automatically tighten up under strain, but will release once the strain is removed. It slides easily and, as with the standard Bowline, unties easily even after heavy use.

ABOK: 1117

Classification: Loop

Structure: The Running Bowline is simply a standard Bowline where the loop formed when tying the Bowline encloses the standing end of the line. This can be tied at least two ways but if the rope is long or the standing end is secured, the method shown in the animation is the practical one.

Strength/Reliability: The Running Bowline is strong and secure but does not reduce the strength of a line.
