Farrimond Friction Hitch
Usage
The Farrimond friction hitch is a quick release adjustable friction hitch for use on lines under tension. It is useful when the length of a line will need to be periodically adjusted in order to maintain or adjust tension whilst remaining quick and easy to untie.
Common Uses
- adjust tension on a tent ridgeline with quick release.
- tighten or loosen a clothesline or washing line easily.
- tension a tarp line that needs periodic adjustment.
- secure a line under tension that must be easy to untie.
- set up a camp shelter line that can be adjusted quickly.
- replace a taut-line hitch with a faster-to-tie, faster-to-untie alternative that doesn't require threading the full cord length.
- create an adjustable loop that can be tightened or loosened quickly.
- tension a clothesline between two trees.
- tie a tarp guyline to a ground stake with quick-release tension.
History
The Farrimond friction hitch was first demonstrated in 2008 by British actor Barry Farrimond during a bushcraft demonstration at the Yellow Wood Bush Camp in Wales.
Structure
The Farrimond Friction Hitch is similar in structure to the Prusik.
Strength/Reliability
Additional wraps, providing more friction, can be added for additional security.
