Usage

The Fish-N-Fool knot is a strong, easy-to-tie fishing knot that holds well in slippery braided lines. Essentially a Uni Knot (Grinner knot) with the line passed twice through the hook eye before tying, giving it extra strength and better grip on braided line.

History

The Fish-N-Fool Knot gained widespread recognition after winning its category in North American Fisherman’s 'Knot Wars' competition in 2010, proving stronger than popular knots such as the Berkley Braid, Palomar, and San Diego Jam knots. Its strength and simplicity contributed to its popularity—most anglers familiar with the Uni Knot (Grinner Knot) can easily adapt to it, as the Fish-N-Fool is essentially a Uni Knot with the line passed twice through the hook eye. Other notable Knot Wars winners include the Orvis Knot and the World’s Fair Knot.

Structure

Strength/Reliability

The Fish-N-Fool knot has an extra turn through the eye of the hook that provides superior holding power in braided line when compared to other similar knots like the Uni Knot, Palomar or San Diego Jam Knot.

Note

As with most fishing knots, remember to lubricate the knot while tightening. Lubricating the knot, typically with water or saliva, reduces friction as the knot is tightened, preventing heat buildup that can weaken the line. This is particularly important for monofilament and fluorocarbon lines, which can be damaged by the heat generated during knot tightening. Proper lubrication allows the knot to cinch smoothly and evenly, preserving the line’s strength and ensuring a more reliable knot.
