Surgeon's Loop
( Double Loop | Double Overhand Loop )
Usage
The Surgeon's Loop is a strong, easily tied fixed loop often used with fishing line. It is a somewhat bulky but is great for making quick, strong loops at the end of lines and leaders for connecting to other loops.
Common Uses
- create a loop at the end of a fishing leader for a loop-to-loop connection.
- form a quick, strong loop in fishing line (monofilament or fluorocarbon).
- make a fixed loop in a rope or cord for general attachment.
- tie a loop at the end of a line for connecting to other tackle.
- build a multi-hook bottom fishing rig with loops for hooks and a sinker.
Also known as
- Double Loop
- Double Overhand Loop
Structure
The Surgeon's Loop is tied the same way as the first part of the Surgeon's Knot but with a double strand. As such, this knot uses more line than most. The Surgeon's Loop is stronger and easier to tie than the Perfection Loop, but not quite as small or neat.
Strength/Reliability
The Surgeon's Loop retains a high percentage of line strength.
