Davy Knot
Usage
Popular with fly fishermen, the Davy Knot is simple and quick to tie.
Common Uses
- attach a fly to a leader quickly during competitive fly fishing.
- tie a small, low-profile knot on tiny flies (size 18 and smaller).
- connect a hook to a fishing line with minimal wasted line.
- tie a tiny dry fly to light tippet with a small knot profile.
History
The Davy Knot is attributed to Davy Wotton, a fly fishing pro from Wales who is now living in Arkansas. Davy invented the knot during a 1950's fly fishing competition when he was looking for a knot that could be tied very quickly.
